Austin Lawrence: Spirit in the Sky filk for IO
December 6th, 2013. Austin Lawrence, of Kaleidoscope Gathering, and KornuKopia Gathering fame, on Raven's Knoll, filked the song "Spirit In The Sky" (originally by Norman Greenbaum in 1969) and suggested that IO cover it: When I die and they hold a fest Gonna go to the place that's the best When I been laid down to die Goin' up to the spirits in the sky Goin' up to the spirits in the sky That's where I'm gonna go when I die When I die and they hold a fest Gonna go to the place that's the best So grab a sword and try to win, You got a friend in Odin. So you know that when you die He's gonna recommend you To the spirits in the sky Gonna recommend you To the spirits in the sky That's where you're gonna go when you die When you die and you been laid to rest You're gonna go to the place that's the best When I burn in that boat, I'll be raised like one of Thor's goat. So you know that when I die He's gonna set me up with The spirits in the sky Oh set me up with the spirits in the sky That's where I'm gonna go when I die When I die and they lay me to rest I'm gonna go to the place that's the best Go to the place that's the best Blessed be and 93, Auz |

Sing Our Own Song,
originally by UB40 in 1986 in response to South African Apartheid. Amandla is a Xhosa and Zulu word meaning "power". The word was a popular rallying cry in the days of resistance against Apartheid, used by the African National Congress and its allies. The leader of a group would call out "Amandla!" and the crowd would respond with "Awethu" or "Ngawethu!" (To us), completing the South African version of the rallying cry "Power to the People!" The phrase is still associated with struggles against oppression. Listen to 1986 original by UB40 © EMI, Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, Universal. Listen to cover by Panthea |
