Cast of Wonders #164
Amicae Aeternum, by Ellen Klages (narration, musick, engineering) April 19th, 2015. After Isis' slam-dunk narration of "Tradition," by L.M. Ball, for Pseudopod, she was asked by Marguerite Kenner, the Editor and host of Cast of Wonders, to read for the story "Amicae Aeternum," by Ellen Klages. I wound up narrating, Isis performed the voice of "Cory," and Fiona Van Verth ("Princess Scientist") performed the voice of "Anna." There were four lines of a lullaby that were written in the text, so I wrote music for the girls to sing. So I audio engineered the project, and recorded the song "I See the Moon" for the episode. Cast of Wonders is a Parsec Award winning young adult short audio fiction magazine. [download MP3] |
I See the Moon (musick)
April 20th, 2015. This is a song that was inspired by and written for the audio production of the short story "Amicae Aeternum" by Ellen Klages. The words are by Ellen Klages and make up four lines of the actual text. Isis LaCoste, who is the vocalist in this version of the song was also cast to read the part of "Cory," the protagonist of the tale. You can hear the story at the young adult audio fiction magazine, Cast of Wonders, and the full text can be read at TOR.com. I see the moon, the moon sees me the moon sees the somebody I want to see God bless the moon, and god bless me God bless the somebody I want to see |

Pseudopod Christmas 2014 Bonus Flash
Tradition (narration by Isis) On December 24th, 2014, another narration for Pseudopod was released. The story is called Tradition, by L.M. Ball. Just after submitting my narration of Party at the Witch House, I was sent another text to be released for Christmas. The thing was, the point of view was that of a child. I asked Isis if she would be interested in narrating this story for Pseudopod, and she was all over it. We submitted this surprise to the Editor, and it was very favourably regarded. Austin Lawrence: Spirit in the Sky filk for IO
December 6th, 2013. Austin Lawrence, of Kaleidoscope Gathering, and KornuKopia Gathering fame, on Raven's Knoll, filked the song "Spirit In The Sky" (originally by Norman Greenbaum in 1969) and suggested that IO cover it. I love the lyrics! Here they are: When I die and they hold a fest Gonna go to the place that's the best When I been laid down to die Goin' up to the spirits in the sky Goin' up to the spirits in the sky That's where I'm gonna go when I die When I die and they hold a fest Gonna go to the place that's the best So grab a sword and try to win, You got a friend in Odin. So you know that when you die He's gonna recommend you To the spirits in the sky Gonna recommend you To the spirits in the sky That's where you're gonna go when you die When you die and you been laid to rest You're gonna go to the place that's the best When I burn in that boat, I'll be raised like one of Thor's goat. So you know that when I die He's gonna set me up with The spirits in the sky Oh set me up with the spirits in the sky That's where I'm gonna go when I die When I die and they lay me to rest I'm gonna go to the place that's the best Go to the place that's the best Blessed be and 93, Auz |

IO: Online Music Sampler on Panthea (musick)
On June 1st, 2013, the IO music sampler was released in order for venue organisers to listen to our sound. Individual choice selections were then chosen, edited together with brief narration or explanation between the excerpts, mixed, and engineered into a Sampler. All the recording and the rest of the work was done by me. IO: We Are Ready: “The Rhythm Section” (musick, video)
On May 14th, 2013, professional Toronto musician, John Tayles, presented IO’s audio/video contribution to his ambitious international Global Choir project, the We Are Ready Challenge. This part of the project involves different musicians recording a single musical track, based on John Tayles’ song and music video “We Are Ready,” and filming the recording. The world-wide contributed films with audio will then be used in a new music video, or film-collage, and the audio mixed into one comprehensive arrangement of John’s original piece. Two members of IO (David Wolfsong and myself) worked at Euphonic Sound Studio, recorded by James Pew, to lay down about 20 separate hand-drum tracks in order to create what is known as a “drum circle,” playing to John’s song. I then mixed and engineered the tracks at home. Later, at Paganfest festival at which IO was scheduled to perform, we invited a number of drummers to play to John’s song blasted from an outdoor PA, and had Meg Slater of Astrum Studios film the proceedings. I edited the film, and edited the pre-recorded audio to the video. [watch] |

JD Hobbes: The Dead Don’t Pay (audio engineering)
On October 27th, 2011, professional storyteller J.D. Hobbes released his story, The Dead Don’t Pay, on his website, Shortening The Road, with my own treatment to it. Hobbes had recorded this tale some time in 2009 in front of a live student audience in Montreal. For my next Kakophonos Hallowe’en special, I asked for another creepy story recording from him, and he donated this one for the show. The sound was fixed and dialogue edited and smoothed out. But there was also music, sound effects, foley, and audio effects cradling the whole tale. This track is currently featured on his new CD called "Did You Hear That?" |

Kakophonos Publicity Stunt: Rikki Come Home (publicity stunt)
On November 15th, 2010, a video was released as a publicity stunt for Kakophonos Internet Radio. My 2010 Hallowe’en Special came out, and was hosted by a fellow podcaster from New Jersey, Chris Orapello of The Infinite and Beyond podcast, because I had “disappeared.” There were a number of people involved in the publicity stunt, where I was completely AWOL for the whole month of November. There was a risky social media blitz, wherein those involved organized candle-light vigils, fake music compilations, psychics, and musicians dedicating songs to my safe return. One musician, Dr Frost invented a song on the fly as I recorded the audio and played a djembe in the background. I then took the audio, fixed it up, and edited it into a music video on YouTube. kakophonos highlights | Chris Orapello's commentary |

Kakophonos Internet Radio: Third Incarnation (podcast)
On April 8th, 2010, I launched Kakophonos Internet Radio’s third incarnation. This version of the podcast included much of the old material, but on steroids, including theme music (that I wrote through Panthea), a fictional Viking co-host (Wolfgang Schtrüdelburger), and a regular hour-long format. As a resourceful artist, voice actor, musician, and amateur audio engineer, for years, I brought guests on, interviewed musicians and authorities on esoteric subjects, created more faux commercials and parodies, interacted with my fictional co-host hilariously, and had a lot of fun. Episodes continued regularly into 2012, but is now undergoing a hiatus and a further incarnation. kakophonos highlights | Fire Lyte's commentary |
Firedance (musick)
On August 5th, 2009, Firedance released two songs online: Bourée and Baladi. The rest are to be found on our official Firedance CD, in which I performed, co-produced, and co-engineered alongside Ben Bergmann at his Nowhere Studio. For more information or to get a hold of a Firedance CD, contact Firedance founder Charlene Freedom at her website, the Firedance Facebook Group, or the Firedance Facebook Page. |
JD Hobbes: The Hall of Wonders (audio engineering)
On May 4th, 2009, professional storyteller J.D. Hobbes released his retelling of Thomas E Fuller’s story, The Hall of Wonders, on his website, Shortening The Road, with my own treatment to it. Hobbes had asked if I could fix his recording of the tale for his upcoming CD, The Bard’s New Hat. I said I could, and what he received was not what he was expecting. The sound was fixed and dialogue edited and smoothed out. But there was also music, sound effects, foley, and audio effects cradling the whole tale. This version of his tale was eventually also published on my first Kakophonos Hallowe’en special. |

Kakophonos Internet Radio Podcast: iTunes
Generation 2 Some time in 2005, Rod MacPherson and myself re-invented and re-launched Kakophonos Internet Radio through iTunes and through our new website as a podcast, now that Apple had essentially popularized the “Podcast” medium. In this incarnation we re-released our old material from 2002, but as an hour-long continuous MP3, hosted the sections as recorded commentaries, mixed and engineered fades and sound effects, and began toying with humorous audio dramas and faux commercials, which included music, sound effects (foley), voice overs, audio FX of all sorts, and anything else we put our imaginations to and could accomplish. Original Generation 2 Podcast Episodes: 1. Gaia Consort | 2. Tech Talk | 3. Baltic Paganism | 4. Egyptian Paganism |
Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (audio & literate exploration)
On June 25th, 2003, I designed, mixed, and engineered an artistic piece for meditation purposes, based on a traditional Qabalistic ritual. Kakophonos, a PsychopompNet Radio Production: Winamp
Generation 1 Some time in 2002, Rod MacPherson and myself launched Kakophonos, a PsychopompNet Radio Production as a Winamp MP3 streaming radio station. These were in the days before podcasts. Rod and I were some of the pioneers of the medium, and broadcast original interviews concerning pagan and esoteric topics, and original music from bands and musicians who gave us permission, including music of my own, Panthea. Unfortunately, we were frequently down due to bandwidth issues. Production consisted of recording live performances on MP3 recorders, interviewing with the recorders, and editing the content for brevity. We also collected and converted musical tracks to MP3s. We then collected all the individual tracks into a playlist, and simply broadcast the playlist. |

HAZE (musick)
In 2002 a number of musicians collaborated to produce original music, headed by singer-songwriter Leanne Hayes and her sister Shonna Hayes. The band Haze already existed as a Heavy Metal endeavour, but Leanne felt the drive to tone it down and reinvent the band with a more subtle and emotional sound and exploration. This is when I came aboard, providing hand percussion, woodwind, and additional vocals. There were also mandolin, acoustic guitar, cello, keyboard, violin, and even hurdy-gurdy that added to the unique sound of Haze. There was even a live painter on stage with the band who created a painting for every song we performed. There were many versions and explorations of the same song on canvass. In February 2002, we launched our official website, which I designed myself. By at least May of 2003, we had begun recording in the studio, and a series of short films of our dramatic live performances were filmed. Our engineer was none other than Nick Blagona, of Metalworks (among other claims to fame), who is a veteran in the industry, and whose engineering accomplishments include Deep Purple – to Jeff Martin and the Tea Party. Nick is also a mentor to me. Eventually, Nick Blagona volunteered to take the reins and become our producer, as well as engineering our original music. Several CD releases emerged from this project, until about 2005 or so, when we all went our separate ways. Nick Blagona is still an idol to me in the audio industry, and I learned many things about recording and engineering through my experience with Haze in the studio. |
Samadhi vs the Holy Guardian Angel (essay)
On April the 16th, 2001, my essay was contributed to a provocative Thelemic discussion on the subject on the Beast Bay section of the Hermetic Library. |
Panthea (musick)
At some point in 2000 I collected my various compositions from over the years and began recording and engineering them into an eclectic collection called Panthea. As they were finished being recorded – or re-recorded – and mixed, I would upload the pieces to various online establishments, as well as CD production. On Bandcamp | CBC Radio | Reverb Nation | OurStage |
St Michael’s Choir School (musick)
In 1980, I was one of two boys selected to try out for St Michael’s Choir School from my elementary school, and subsequently the only one from my school to make it. In 1981 I entered Grade Four at St Mike’s. This is an all-boy’s private choir school. While attending, I was plunged into classes such as Choir, Choral, Vocal (one-on-one training), Music Theory, Piano (Royal Conservatory), and French Emersion – on top of the usual school board curriculum requirements. This is where I first got my real training in music. |
